About Mentor

Mentor is a drug and alcohol prevention charity that focuses on promoting and protecting the health and wellbeing of children and young people.

For the last eight years Mentor has had a particular focus on kinship care undertaking indepth research across the EU and Scotland to understand and address the support needs of kinship carers. In response we have developed the National kinship Care Resource Guide while delivering hands on support to kinship families through our Families Together Project to help build resilience and improve family relationships.

Mentor has also enhanced its training capacity: a new package of materials on attachment, child development and resilience as well as sessions on alcohol and drugs, anger management and the role of communicating and educating children. This is then complimented by our mentoring service which trains carers to become mentors to others in their community to ensure as many families can receive support and advice.
