Robbie, 16 years

I couldn’t stay at home anymore there were way too many arguments between me and my dad and mum always took his side. It had been going on for a couple of years and the shouting, swearing and pushing was getting worse and worse. I was always having to look after my wee brother and sister which wasn’t fair as I was missing football training. I refused one night and dad went mental. I had to just get away from him so I ran away to Sarah’s my big sister as she knows what he’s like.

Sarah is much older than me and has a son Charlie who’s 4yrs. Sarah phoned dad to say I was there and he told her to tell me not to bother coming back.

I feel bad for Sarah that I’m staying here as I don’t have any money to give her, Sarah says it’s okay she’ll sort something she’s going to see someone about what benefits she can claim. The school is helping me sort out EMA money so that should help a bit.

I think Charlie likes sharing a room with me, he keeps asking if I’m his big brother now and he loves the bunk beds that Sarah got from a friend as I was sleeping on the couch for a few weeks. I don’t mind sharing as I had to share when I stayed at mum and dads it’s just annoying when I’m going to bed in the dark so I don’t wake him and I stand on his cars. Sarah says we’ll get through this and has found a support worker that will help us.
