Family Placement Team (Dumfries & Galloway Council)

Dumfries and Galloway’s family placement team provide ongoing support to kinship care families where the child is looked-after and placed by the local authority, and where the child is non-looked-after and subject to a residence order.

Family Support Service (Quarriers)

Quarriers’ Family Support Service supports children, young people and families affected by disability throughout Dumfries and Galloway. They have offices in Dumfries and Stanraer provide help to parents and carers, children and young people at home or in their local communities.

Family Support Service (Scottish Families)

Scottish Families are operating a Family Support Service across the Dumfries and Galloway and will provide information and advice, one-to-one support, peer support through the facilitation of family support groups and advocacy to individuals, family members and friends affected by someone else’s substance misuse.

Hear 4U Dumfries & Galloway (Barnardo's)

Barnardo’s Hear 4 U project provides advocacy for children and young people, helping them to have their say in decisions that affect them. In Dumfries and Galloway, they prioritise children who are looked after and accommodated by the Council; young people who were previously looked after and accommodated (up to age 26); children who are struggling with emotional health and wellbeing, including those with a learning disability; and children who are involved in the children’s hearing system or child protection process.

Home-Start Wigtownshire

Home-Start centres provide a range of support to families with at least one child under five years old. Each centre has trained volunteers who support families who may be struggling with isolation, physical health, bereavement or a range of other issues.

Relationships Scotland supports individuals, couples and families experiencing relationship difficulties. Their office in Dumfries offers a range of services, including family mediation, relationship counselling and supervised contact, to families throughout Dumfries and Galloway.

Support in Mind Scotland

Support in Mind Scotland seek to support and empower all those affected by mental illness, including family members, carers and supporters. They run a range of projects in Dumfries and Galloway, which operate on a referral only basis.


Upper Nithsdale Family Service (Action for Children)

Action for Children’s Upper Nithsdale Family Service provides a range of support to help families flourish. Their family centre in Kelloholm provides a crèche and drop-in service, and they can also offer family support.
