Have your say on Scotland’s draft Vision for Kinship Care

The Scottish Government has published proposals to make support for kinship families fairer and more consistent across Scotland – and they want to hear from you.

A public consultation on the draft Vision for Kinship Care launched on Monday 22 December 2025 and will run until the end of February 2026. This is your chance to share your views and help shape the future of support for kinship care families.

The draft Vision is an important step towards recognising the vital role kinship families play and ensuring they have the support they need to thrive. It sets out a baseline of support for all kinship families in Scotland, including clearer, fairer financial support, better access to advice and advocacy services and independent advocacy for children in kinship care, while allowing local partners to tailor delivery to family needs. Kinship carers, children and young people have helped shape this Vision as part of Scotland’s commitment to Keep The Promise – ensuring all care-experienced children grow up loved, safe, and respected by 2030.Kinship carers often step in at short notice to provide stability and love for children within their family network. The Scottish Government recognises the challenges kinship families face – including financial pressures – and wants to create a system that is fair, consistent, and grounded in children’s rights.

Your voice matters. Whether you’re a kinship carer, a young person in kinship care, or someone who supports kinship families, you can help shape the final Vision.
