Kinship Care Week 2025

Kinship Care Week 2025 is now behind us and we have been evaluating another successful week.

All sessions which were offered online were extremely successful and well received with a variety of subject matters being delivered including:

  • Benefit information for both Kinship Carers and professionals,
  • Education talks for both Kinship Carers and professionals and
  • A session with Children’s Health Scotland on Calming techniques and health rights.
  • One totally new venture for KCASS  – Blocked Care and Self Care which will be incorporated into future workshop planning.

A family event was held in East Lothian at Airhop and cinema tickets were sent to those who had registered for a family in Aberdeen which was cancelled.

Our colleagues at AFKA arranged an in-person conference in Stirling, for those professionals working with Kinship families and we heard from Dr Helen Whincup on stage two, with a Kinship Care focus, of the permanently progressing study.

There was a new addition to our You Tube page – a video providing information for Kinship Carers preparing or considering undertaking Life Story sessions with the Children and Young People in their care or preparing to attend one of our Life Story sessions. The video, Life Story in Kinship Care was recorded by Pascaline Mollard who mainly developed the Life Story resources: Life Story in Kinship Care | Kinship.scot. The video can be watched on our You Tube channel: Kinship Care Advice Service for Scotland – YouTube or is also available on the Life Story pages of the website.

We are receiving feedback on the participation packs (see image) provided to peer support groups to help them celebrate Kinship Care Week and will take into account all achievable suggestions for next year’s Kinship Care Week 2026.
