Following another successful Kinship Care Week in 2024 we now have additional resources to add to those already held on the website www.kinship.scot.
Life Story resources have been developed over a number of months following requests from Kinship Carers where they told KCASS that when the time was right, they would like to talk to the child in their care about how they came to live with them, where they are now and look to the future. In conjunction with the help sheet Having Important Conversations Kinship-care_Important-Conversations.pdf our newly developed resources can be utilised to start having these conversations.
The resources are held on our new web page and include some instruction on how to use the resources and some downloadable and printable booklets. We suggest starting with the present and then considering the past and the future. The booklets can also be sent out to you if required and you can email the service on advice@kinshipscot.org to request some copies. You can view the resources here: Life Story in Kinship Care – Kinship.scot
Kinship Carers often contact our helpline with enquiries about the legal side of Kinship Care. To compliment the content of the website, videos were recorded which consider some of the legal aspects of Kinship Care with a focus on Parental contact. These videos were recorded by the Kinship consultant, the legal consultant and the helpline adviser, all having years of experience in supporting Kinship Carers.
The first video was recorded following an online session Managing Parental Contact in Kinship Care which was delivered to a full house of Kinship Carers by the Kinship Consultant Anne Thom just before she left the organisation. You can view this video here: https://youtu.be/Nq_bllDmM5c Parental Contact in Kinship Care
The two other videos explore the Children’s Hearing system and the views of the child and also Kinship Care, legal orders and also considers some questions and answers about contact.
The videos were developed and recorded by Rhona Pollock, the KCASS legal consultant and Linda McGarrigle, the KCASS helpline adviser.
