The Foyer is a social enterprise that supports individuals in the North East of Scotland. Initially set up to tackle homelessness and youth unemployment, they also deliver services relating to health and wellbeing, counselling, mentoring and education.

Action for Children’s Aberdeen Priority Families service works with families who are at most risk. They offer a comprehensive package of support which may consist of individual, family work, groupwork and educational programmes. They also support families to use community services appropriately.

Aberlour Family Service provides a ‘core service’ to assess and support parents with a learning disability, who have children aged 0-12 years. Aberlour Options provides short-breaks to children with disabilities and their families, including overnight respite, day-care and community based outreach. As and when requested, they also provide support to young people in schools as well as in-house parenting advice and support.

ACIS is a counselling and information service that provides free, confidential therapeutic counselling in the Aberdeen community. ACIS Youth provides counselling services for young people in Aberdeen City, which can be accessed directly by young people or requested by others, such as parents or carers, teachers or social workers, when the young person has given their consent.

Alcohol and Drugs Action provide a range of services to families affected by alcohol and drug misuse in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. This includes information and advice (their helpline is open Mon-Fri 10:30-19:00; Sat-Sun 14:00-17:00), and access to one-to-one and group support for children or other family members.

Befriend a Child support children and young people growing up in difficult life circumstances across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire to achieve their full potential and develop into confident and competent adults. As well as its core befriending service, Befriend a Child run a school holiday play scheme and the Grandparents as Parents Project, a support group for grandparents who care for their grandchildren.

The Family Information Service (FIS) provides free, comprehensive and up-to-date information and advice about all services for children, young people and their families in Aberdeen. Home-Start centres provide a range of support to families with at least one child under five years old. Each centre has trained volunteers who support families who may be struggling with isolation, physical health, bereavement or a range of other issues.

Includem provides intensive support services to some of Scotland’s most vulnerable young people. They work with young people who are most often excluded from mainstream services, and run a range of projects to help young people with issues such as preventing family breakdown, crisis support, transitional support and raising attainment.

intandem is a mentoring programme for children and young people in kinship care. It supports young people aged 8 to 14 years, and often carries on beyond age 14.
Mentors can make a big difference to a young person, building their confidence, helping them to try new things and set goals. By meeting regularly (often weekly), they build a positive relationship and have lots of fun together.
intandem is managed by Inspiring Scotland and delivered by 11 charity partners in 19 local authorities.

The St. Machar Parent Support Project exists to provide information, advice, support and training to parents/carers of children who attend school or live within the St Machar Academy’s catchment area of Aberdeen. They run summer programmes, exam support, one-to-one family support and parenting programmes. The project also works with schools outside the catchment area if a child lives within the area, but attends an alternative school because of special circumstances.

Sunrise Partnership is a free, confidential service for children and young people up to age 18 who have been affected by loss and bereavement. They aim to help children and young people deal with loss, change and bereavement in a healthy and positive way, by using therapeutic tools and strategies tailored to the individual child and their age and stage of development. This may be one-to-one, sibling or family support, or group support.
