Caithness & Sutherland Women’s Aid – Children & Young People Service

Caithness & Sutherland Women’s Aid have a well-established Children and Young People’s Service, which provides emotional and practical support to children and young people who have (or whose family has) experienced or are experiencing domestic abuse. Each child or young person referred to the service is allocated a support worker. Support is led by the child or young person and is individually tailored to suit their life and their experience(s).

Care & Learning Alliance (CALA)

Family Mediation Tayside and Fife is a member of Relationships Scotland. They support individuals, couples and families experiencing relationship difficulties. They have offices in Dundee and Glenrothes, from which they offer a range of services, including family mediation, counselling, family therapy and supervised contact, to families throughout Tayside and Fife.

Drugs and Alcohol Recovery Service NHSH

Osprey House offers a range of services including advice, information, treatment, support and contact with other agencies. The service is completely confidential, delivered by experienced staff and geared towards anyone who is experiencing problems in their life associated with alcohol and drugs or related issues, including family and friends. The service is provided in an informal friendly setting.

Family Mediation Highland (Relationships Scotland)

Relationships Scotland supports individuals, couples and families experiencing relationship difficulties. Their office in Inverness offers a range of services, including family mediation, counselling and parent support, to families throughout Highland.

Gael Og (Action for Children)

Action for Children’s Gael Og services provide a wide range of support services for children, young people and adults in the Highlands. These include: advisory services; services that encourage young people to take part in healthy activities; one-to-one support for young people experiencing problems with drugs and alcohol; intensive support and guidance for extremely vulnerable young people. Gael Og works across Highland with the aim of ensuring the best outcomes for children and families in the North of Scotland.

Home-Start

Home-Start centres provide a range of support to families with at least one child under five years old. Each centre has trained volunteers who support families who may be struggling with isolation, physical health, bereavement or a range of other issues.

Intandem

intandem is a mentoring programme for children and young people in kinship care.  It supports young people aged 8 to 14 years, and often carries on beyond age 14.   

Mentors can make a big difference to a young person, building their confidence, helping them to try new things and set goals.  By meeting regularly (often weekly), they build a positive relationship and have lots of fun together.  

 intandem is managed by Inspiring Scotland and delivered by 11 charity partners in 19 local authorities.

Kooth

Kooth.com is a free online counselling, advice and support service for young people aged between 10 and 16 years available in Glasgow and some other areas in Scotland.

It provides a safe secure means of accessing support with a specialist team of qualified counsellors and offers self-help tools and community spaces. The aim of Kooth is to support better emotional and mental health and wellbeing of young people and support is tailored to the individual young persons needs and situation.

The qualified counsellors are online 365 days a year. Monday to Friday, from 12 noon – 10pm and between 6pm- 10pm on weekends.

Kooth has no waiting list or referral process. Children and young people can access support for any issue they may be experiencing.

Lochaber Women's Aid – Children & Young People Service

Lochaber Women’s Aid supports women and children who are experiencing or have experienced domestic abuse. Their children and young people workers are available to discuss issues that are happening in the home, at school, with family or with friends.

The Spark Counselling Inverness

The Spark is a leading provider of couples counselling, marriage counselling, individual counselling and family counselling in Scotland. In Inverness they offer a range of face-to-face, online and telephone appointments for couples counselling, marriage counselling and individual counselling.

Thriving Families

Thriving Families provides an independent information, advice and support service for families with children (up to age 25) with additional support needs, and the professionals working with them. An additional support need is anything which means a child needs more, or different, support to another child the same age to make the most of their lives.

Wave

Wave is a sexual health and relationships education service for all young people aged 24 and under living in the Highlands. As well as delivering education programmes to groups in schools and the community, their website provides Highland-specific information and help to find relevant local services.
