Barnardo’s Nurture Service (Inverclyde)

Barnardo’s Nurture Service offers tailored family support to children aged 0-12 in Inverclyde. The service has a dedicated kinship project, designed specifically for kinship carers and the children they look after. The kinship project offers holistic support for families, addressing issues such as housing, benefits, challenging behaviour and difficult family dynamics. Families receiving this service can also access the full range of Barnardo’s support, including groups and befriending.

Family Mediation West of Scotland (Relationships Scotland)

Relationships Scotland supports individuals, couples and families experiencing relationship difficulties. They offer a range of services, including family mediation, counselling and supervised contact, to families throughout the West of Scotland.

Family Support Volunteers (Action for Children)

Family Support Volunteers works with the most vulnerable and hard to reach parents and carers in West Dunbartonshire and Inverclyde to support them to make positive changes and build their parenting capacity. Volunteers focus on strengthening attachment relationships, involving them in play, outdoor activities, reading and early literacy activities, as well as financial budgeting and healthy eating.

Hear 4U Inverclyde (Barnardo's)

Barnardo’s Hear 4U project provides advocacy for children and young people, helping them to have their say in decisions that affect them. In Inverclyde, they prioritise children who are involved in the children’s hearing system and/or child protection process.

Home-Start Renfrewshire & Inverclyde

Home-Start centres provide a range of support to families with at least one child under five years old. Each centre has trained volunteers who support families who may be struggling with isolation, physical health, bereavement or a range of other issues.

Intandem

intandem is a mentoring programme for children and young people in kinship care.  It supports young people aged 8 to 14 years, and often carries on beyond age 14.   

Mentors can make a big difference to a young person, building their confidence, helping them to try new things and set goals.  By meeting regularly (often weekly), they build a positive relationship and have lots of fun together.   

intandem is managed by Inspiring Scotland and delivered by 11 charity partners in 19 local authorities.

Kinship Care Team (Inverclyde Council)

Inverclyde have a dedicated kinship care team that offers a range of support, and also works alongside voluntary and third sector agencies. The named kinship social worker can offer advice, guidance and emotional support through home visits, by telephone or via email and text; practical assistance and advocacy for kinship carers is also provided, when needed. Kinship carers can also benefit from financial advice, a Maximising Income Assessment, and a weekly kinship allowance (if approved). There is a youth justice worker to provide more focused work with young people. All kinship carers are invited to attend Family Ties, Inverclyde’s kinship support group. And the team also organise training on relevant issues and access to a local indoor soft play park.

Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol and Drugs (SFAD) Inverclyde

SFAD are open and accepting referrals for anyone over the age of 16 who is affected by a loved one’s alcohol or drug use. They just need a name and phone number and they will take it from there.

The Speech Language Communication Company (SLCo)

SLCo has a range of information services that provide help and advice to parents and carers about speech, language and communication. Their staff cover Dundee, Angus, Perth and Kinross, Edinburgh and Lothians, Glasgow, Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Borders and Western Isles; they organise local support groups, workshops, one-to-one support, and can arrange a Speech Language Therapist guided support service.

TouchBase & Parent Enabler Project (Sense Scotland)

Sense Scotland run several projects for families with disabled children and young people in Glasgow and the West of Scotland. TouchBase is a purpose built resource centre that helps school-aged children with communication support needs to develop their skills, take on new challenges and make friends. Their Parent Enabler Project provides a range of family support, tailored to the specific needs of the family.

Ypeople

Ypeople, formerly YMCA Glasgow, provides support to a range of vulnerable groups. Their Ypeer Mentoring project is a service for care experienced young people (aged 14-26) in Glasgow and surrounding areas, where peer mentors support young people leaving care or making another life transition.
