Children 1st East Lothian

The kinship care hub provides a range of support interventions designed to meet families’ discrete and complex needs. These include befriending, advocacy, mediation, practical support, individual and group work, parenting support, financial inclusion advice, family group conferencing, and direct intensive therapeutic support working with loss, harm and trauma.

Cyrenians Mediation and Support

Cyrenians Mediation and Support service exists to prevent relationship breakdown that leads to youth homelessness. Cyrenians work with kinship care families and young people at risk of being moved into care. In East Lothian, there is support to families where a young person has at risk of, or has already been ‘asked to leave’ the home because of relationship breakdown.

Family Journeys (Lothian)

First Step Community Project

First Step is a community managed project that offers a range of support services for local families including nursery education for children aged 1-4 years, groups and courses for parents, a sleep clinic, support groups for grandparents, young parents, parents with addictions and an outreach service. These groups are open to anyone living in the Musselburgh area.

Home-Start centres provide a range of support to families with at least one child under five years old. Each centre has trained volunteers who support families who may be struggling with isolation, physical health, bereavement or a range of other issues.

MELD

MELD aims to reduce the harm associated with substance misuse by providing free and confidential services for individuals whose lives are affected by drugs/ or alcohol. The Family Support Service works with adults affected by a loved one’s substance misuse. This support includes one-to-one counselling, drugs education, complementary therapies and stress management and a group work programme that takes place across Mid and East Lothian.

Richmond's Hope

The Speech Language Communication Company (SLCo)

SLCo has a range of information services that provide help and advice to parents and carers about speech, language and communication. Their staff cover Dundee, Angus, Perth and Kinross, Edinburgh and Lothians, Glasgow, Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Borders and Western Isles; they organise local support groups, workshops, one-to-one support, and can arrange a Speech Language Therapist guided support service.
