Action for Children Eilean Siar Alcohol & Drug Partnership

Action for Children provide a wide range of services from to children and families across the Western Isles. They work with children and families who have been affected by substance misuse and violence against women, children with disabilities and children who have been identified as in need by Children’s Services.

Autism Eilean Siar

Autism Eileanan Siar is a group for families with children or adults with autism or other additional needs. We meet once a month at the Lewis Retirement Centre from 10-12pm,every second Friday of the month, (excluding school holidays) come along for a cuppa chat and advice, and make new friends, everyone is welcome .

Barra Children's Centre

Barra Children’s Centre is a community-owned organisation that provides education and other services for pre-school children in Barra and Vatersay. In addition to providing accommodation for Council-run Nursery provision, the Children’s Centre also provides a Parent and Toddlers facility used for informal drop-in sessions and playleader led activities in Gaelic and English for babies, toddlers and their families, and a café.

Bridge Community Centre

The Bridge Community Centre is a vibrant youth and community group on the Isle of Lewis. The Bridge Community Centre Youth Group aims to increase the amount of opportunities for young people to play and socialise; their services include club nights and a mentoring programme.

The Caladh Trust

The Caladh Trust is based Balivanich and provides a wide range of services for people affected by addiction, family breakdown, exclusion illness and poverty. This includes drop-in services, individual and group support and counselling, a community garden and café, healthy eating programmes, minor household repairs and other practical support.

Counselling & Family Mediation Western Isles (Relationships Scotland)

Relationships Scotland supports individuals, couples and families experiencing relationship difficulties. Their office in Stornoway offers counselling and mediation support for families throughout the Western Isles.

Kooth

Kooth.com is a free online counselling, advice and support service for young people aged between 10 and 16 years available in Glasgow and some other areas in Scotland.

It provides a safe secure means of accessing support with a specialist team of qualified counsellors and offers self-help tools and community spaces. The aim of Kooth is to support better emotional and mental health and wellbeing of young people and support is tailored to the individual young persons needs and situation.

The qualified counsellors are online 365 days a year. Monday to Friday, from 12 noon – 10pm and between 6pm- 10pm on weekends.

Kooth has no waiting list or referral process. Children and young people can access support for any issue they may be experiencing.

The Shed

The Shed is a youth and community facility in Stornoway that is fully equipped to offer a wide range of options to many types of clients. They run a range of activities for young people, including youth clubs, one-to-one’s and drop-in’s; a babies and toddlers group; and a drop-in centre called ‘The Well’ for adults who are affected by their own or someone else’s substance misuse.

The Speech Language Communication Company (SLCo)

SLCo has a range of information services that provide help and advice to parents and carers about speech, language and communication. Their staff cover Dundee, Angus, Perth and Kinross, Edinburgh and Lothians, Glasgow, Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Borders and Western Isles; they organise local support groups, workshops, one-to-one support, and can arrange a Speech Language Therapist guided support service.
