Children 1st Midlothian

Children 1st are based in Dalkeith, from where they provide a range of services that support children, young people and their families to overcome the impact of abuse, neglect, and other traumatic events. This includes an intensive family support programme for families who are experiencing stress and difficulties, and where parents have substance misuse issues.

Family Mediation Lothian (Relationships Scotland)

Family Mediation Lothian supports families and children who are experience break up; they aim to minimise any negative effects and, where possible, prevent them from happening at all. They run a range of services, including a telephone information service, mediation services, child contact centres and children’s groups.

Family Placement Team (Midlothian Council)

Midlothian Council has a dedicated Team Leader with responsibility for delivering kinship services in partnership with local carers, several of whom sit on the Council’s Kinship Strategy Group. They offer a range of services, training opportunities and events for all kinship carers.

Grandparents Parenting Again & Kinship Carers

Grandparents Parenting Again and Kinship Carers (Midlothian) is run by kinship carers for kinship carers. They run several support groups at Gorebridge and Penicuick, and a peer support service that provides one-to-one support, information and representation, and signposting to other local services.

Home Link Family Support

Home Link Family Support is an award-winning charitable organisation supporting families with young children in Edinburgh and Midlothian. They work with families in their own homes to ensure the best start in life for children. They provide a range of services including systemic family counselling, family support (using trained volunteers to provide family-learning experiences) and a young parents’ service.

MELD

MELD aims to reduce the harm associated with substance misuse by providing free and confidential services for individuals whose lives are affected by drugs/ or alcohol. The Family Support Service works with adults affected by a loved one’s substance misuse. This support includes one-to-one counselling, drugs education, complementary therapies and stress management and a group work programme that takes place across Mid and East Lothian.

Midlothian Sure Start provides a wide range of services for children and families in Midlothian. The Speech Language Communication Company (SLCo)

SLCo has a range of information services that provide help and advice to parents and carers about speech, language and communication. Their staff cover Dundee, Angus, Perth and Kinross, Edinburgh and Lothians, Glasgow, Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Borders and Western Isles; they organise local support groups, workshops, one-to-one support, and can arrange a Speech Language Therapist guided support service.

VOCAL
