Crossroads Children's Service

Crossroads Orkney provides information, emotional support and practical help to carers in Orkney. They run a children’s service, through which trained care attendants support children with additional needs to attend activities and clubs that they cannot attend on their own.

Family Support Team (Orkney Islands Council)

The Family Support Team has five family support workers who are part of the Children and Families Service. They can offer support in the family home or in the community; they provide a range of services including parenting support, one-to-one support, baby massage, family meetings and mediation, help with benefits, and emotional support for children. Referrals are made through social work.

Home-Start Orkney

Home-Start centres provide a range of support to families with at least one child under five years old. Each centre has trained volunteers who support families who may be struggling with isolation, physical health, bereavement or a range of other issues.

The Pier Arts Centre

Relationships Scotland Orkney

Relationships Scotland supports individuals, couples and families experiencing relationship difficulties. Their office in Kirkwall offers a range of services, including family mediation, counselling, play therapy and supervised contact, to families throughout Orkney.

Vital Talk

Vital Talk is a small local charity that has the support of several local church organisations. It provides general counselling and Christian Counselling to anyone aged 16 years and over, regardless of ethnicity, gender or religion. Appointments are available at several locations, in Kirkwall, Holm, Hoy and Stromness.

Voluntary Action Orkney

Voluntary Action Orkney run several projects and services in Orkney, including a youth befriending service, the Connect project, which works with young people aged 16-19, and a directory of local services, including childcare and youth services, in Orkney.

Ypeople

Ypeople, formerly YMCA Glasgow, provides support to a range of vulnerable groups. In Orkney, they run Y-Talk, a Youth Counselling service for young people up to the age of 25; they deliver a family support service that provides a range of one-to-one and group support for families affected by alcohol and drugs; and they deliver Youthworks Mentoring, a mentoring programme for young people in government employment or training programmes.
